THE GATEMAN'S GIFT This story was written by R.K.Narayan. There was a person whose name was Govind Singh.This story based on his fear from the letter which came from his boss.Before he recommended as a gatekepper's post at Englandia's he served in a war 1914-18.When he recommended as a gatekeeper's post gave a khaki uniform,a band across his shoulder and took a stick on his hand and stood in the entrance gate of office and when chief guests are coming then stand up and gave a miliatry salute.He loved his job very much.He never wants to lose his job at any cost.He was also a good model maker.He made fascinated models out of clay and wood dust.One day a neighbour children came in front of him for repair her little doll,he not only repair he made a new thing from it.He made a 'Street Scene' for his office boss called 'Saheb'.He also made another model of 'Children at Play'.At last he made his masterpiece model of'Office Frontage'.One day a post gave him a letter which came from his boss,he was ready to accepted this letter.When he accepted that letter he was very scared about that letter.he was apprehensive about his letter and thought that my pension would be stopped.he behaves like a mad man.He thought that boss didn't like his models and he got angry on him and removed him from his job.He was very scared and that's why he didn't open that letter.He asked everyone that please tell me what is inside the letter,but everyone said that open it and see it.But he doen't gave a permission to open that letter.After that one person told him that go to the X-ray institute and find out what was inside the letter.When he reached that place everyone said that please go home and rest because you are not well yet.Govind Singh thought that why everyone behave him like if he was mad.When that word came into his mind then he realised that why everyone staring him like a mad person.He laughed himself.After that he made a model of village.At the last when General manager came and know what was the matter?then he snatched the letter from his hand and open it and told that there was a gift of 100 rupee note.
